A Very Regional, Even LOCAL Concern:

This concerns the Clubhouse on Hwys 40/42 in Garner, NC:

Earlier this month, a huge banner read: "Karaoke Every Saturday Night at Nine!"
A week later, a communication from them to me said that for the summer, they were going to one night of karaoke per month. Last night was the first.
The previous time there, a clueless host played and repeated "dance song" after dance song twenty to one as opposed to actual karaoke songs with at least seven participants waiting to sing and vocally complaining. No one was dancing.
Most karaoke hosts turn making money playing music, which can be done with a jukebox, into PAYING money for it. The only difference is, SOME of the hosts who fancy themselves as "deejays" do wise crack, Howard Stern-style banter between songs. It would be interesting to see how they'd fare on the old Gong Show, at Charlie Goodnights or even at the Fox Theatre. The education would serve them well. Before you read any hate into this, I know some guys who use this approach, and as people, I LOVE them and they know I disagree with their approach and I don't do so disagreably!
So, once again, last night, singers waited to sing, one to three compared to so called "dance songs." Sorry, that's not karaoke. The pity is, there were good singers there, some even from out of town. Two girls were excellent and, while I did enjoy their dancing, I would have loved to have heard more than one song from them.
Everyone's an expert and one guy who claimed to have worked on air and always runs his mouth when it's his turn to sing, commented to me, that the formula that works is three karaoke songs and a dance tune. Even that, though I disagree with it, would be an improvement over the status quo at The Clubhouse.
As is my custom, I bought my meal there last night, which was mediocre at best. The Clubhouse is marked OFF my list (Onto my POO list) so that's income they apparently don't need, and less tip-age for the wait staff!
The Clubhouse, out of a possible five stars, doesn't even get half a star!
