I STILL Like to Hear It!
Except for the "if I was to close my eyes" part, I love it when someone thinks I duplicate Elvis' incomparable voice. I've got sense enough to know no one can. The boy's been off to see Gladys (his Mom) now, for what is it? Thirty-one years and he's bigger in Rock'n'Roll Heaven than he was the scant twenty-two years of his earthly career.
If EP could tear himself away from leading the real Praise & Worship up there with Mom &Dad long enough, he'd probably look down and characteristically say, "Bunch of weirdos, Man! Never ceases to amaze me."
The picture is the summer of '64 or five at the Wright Brothers Memorial and I was in full Elvis mode. "I-I-I don't know, Man. I've been lucky. I-I-I've been real lucky. I happened to come along at a time when there was no set trend in the music business and I-I-I was lucky...I hope I never awake from this wonderful dream!"
